& gave us his views as to how a company in a rearguard would retired over a given piece of that ground. It was quite an interesting little problem through rather serious. He wasn't more than 3/4 hr. telling us about it, which was something.

Tue Feb 2.

Early morning parade at 9.0. We did the A.G. scheme that we outlined to the C.O's yesterday.

To start off I was with the A.G. which Prowse commanded and Hickling was with a squad which had gone out to hold us up. We started to move from the church towards Khagol & were hung up before we had got properly moving by the ambush who had taken up a position on the other side of the Nullah. Eventually after a certain amount of hesitation they were turned out & forced to retire. Then we changed over & I took the ambush.

We went to the further side of the open ground somewhere about A. ???DIAGRAM??? We used the golf bunker as cover. I sent two men to B with instructions to make a
