was doing Picquetting Officer and O.C. Column as well.

All went fairly well for the first mile, except that the Point got moving a little too fast and hat to be told to slow up. Then Stratton made a slip in sending up some of his Main Guard as Picquet, for some obscure reason. and another Picquet did not improve matters by going up on the right of the road instead of the left.

The General called a halt a got things straightened out and then we got on the move again. After that all went well Larner worked his machine guns very well. I was very pleased with him. The Mountain Gunner Officer was not altogether a success.

The show finished nearly at Changla Gali at 12.30 and we all marched home again, getting back to G.D. at about 1.45.

I was amused at a tale Stratton told re that M.B. officer. Stratton apparently went up to the G.O.C. and said to him "Can you please tell me Sir, how much O.C Column is entitled to tell off his specialist officers". The General spotted at once that he was referring to the M.B. man and said. "The ------ fool!"

Had to go to the orderly room im the afternoon of course. Fortunately there was very little to do and Sergt Hine had attended to most things in the morning.

Slack and I put up Col. Fraser of the West Kents for the night. He has come over as the C.O.'s guest but the C.O. has no spare bedroom and is consequently only feeding him.

As I saw the C.O. in the Mess I was saved the fag of sweating up to his bungalow to-night.

Thursday Sept 14th.

By some perversity of fate there was rather an excess of work in the o/r this morning and I did not leave until 12.0.

Spent the best part of the afternoon writing mail.

Friday Sept. 15th.

Somervel 1 came back to-day. He arrived about 12.30 probably purposely too late to take over to-day.

Had Dinner and slept at Khanspur to-night.

Went down to see the Boxing, after Dinner. The show has been running all week, but I have gladly taken the excuse of being at G.D. not to go.

We are the first Territorial regiment in India to run a Boxing Tournament. It is just as well to show the regulars that they are not the only people who can run these things!

Got back about 11.30 - very bored.
