ranks to get the water. However after another 400 yds we were in camp. I canteened in or turned out the men who hadn't been on trek and the lame ducks who had marched back in comfort with the 2nd line Transport.

I turned them in to unloading the mules and let the section go straight to the canteen for drinks (at my expense) when they were settled I went to the Mess and disposed of 2 burra drinks and 4 cups of tea in almost as many minutes. after that I felt better.

I had 3 more big drinks in the course of the evening but did not succeed in quenching my thirst! I asked Fisher??? what today was like compared with the Gulf. this answer was that he'd sooner trek over desert than up and down these bloody Khuds!

and I heard from the men that are one or two of the returned Persian Gulfers were longing to get back there again if there was to be any more Mountain Warfare.

THURSDAY April 6th

as if we had not already done enough yesterday we were woken up about 2/0 by a dust storm. Dust pactering??? down in one's face is not conducive to sleep however lightly one closes one's Eyes and pillow + bedclothes that are thick with dust are not the most comfortable in the world!

Still all things have an end - even dust storms - and about 3/30 we were able to turn over brush away as much of the dust as would go + sleep again, to
