The Gunners and Scout had been very keen in doing the hauling, but it was obviously D Company's job and as they arranged to do it, it had to be left to them.

The Reception took the form of a Tea at the C.O.'s bungalow which started off with champagne in which of course we drank the Bridegroom's and the Bride's health. Then we settled down to Tea Proper. We had a couple of groups taken. The "happy pair" as they say, drove off about 5/30 and we all left, and transfered ourselves to the Club.

Had a beastly shock after Mess. Mieville and I came back about 10.15 and I went with him into his room. We were both struck by seeing the room upset a bit. Then we noticed that a tin box had disappeared. I didn't like that and went into my own room and then saw that the one thing that marked my attache' case "was not". These was a stream of eloquence addressed at the worldin general and then we proceeded to raise Cain. We turned out the local Police from the Outpost and sent for the Inspector. He arrived in about half an hour. Of course the man I really wanted was the Deputy Superintendent. So we didn't waste time but sent for him. When the man was fetching him we searched round the Bungalow and discovered Mieville's Tin Trunk just over the Garden wall with everything that originally was in it (including a
