Thursday November 4th

Started work to day. As far as I can see at present this course is going to be uncommonly like work! We started off this morning at 7.0 with a talk by the Commandant & then we formed up in our squads. There are 3 officers & 7 sergeants in mine (No. 1.) We work in pairs & as Paul??? happened to be in my squad I wangled it so that we work together. (They won't let two officers work together). The other officers in No. 1. are Fletcher (Capt) Dorsets??? and Johnson (Lt) Devnue???

They start us right at the beginning, & we had a half hour from 7.30 - 8.0 on the Theory of Fighting, Elevation & Direction.

8.3 - 8.40 Firing Position "Standing. Load."

8.40 - 10.0 Breakfast - and we wanted it.

10.0 - 10.30 Lecture by one of the Staff - Capt Castle Smith P concerns ??? - on Firing Instruction.

10.35 - 11.5 Aiming Instruction.

11.10 - 11.40 Firing Position Load Standing.

11.40 - 11.55 1.4 hr Break.

11.55 0 12.25 Coat of Arms.

12.30 - 1.0 Muscle Exercises & Rapid Loading.

That was our Programme. It wasn't a bit tedious. The 1/2 hr system of splitting up the subjects prevents that. We have got a very good Sergt. Instructor - &??? he seems so. To??? takes trouble.

Except for a break for Tennis from 4 - 6 (Same 4 as yesterday) the afternoon right up to time for Mess (7.45) was spent on writing up notes on the Lectures. How long everyone will keep up the energy displayed to day I don't know.

Both time he writes 11.55 he errors and writes 12 and attempts to correct (one with a cross out and one by writing over the 11
