Monday November 1st.

Despite the lateness of our retirement last night, we were both awake soon after 7.30 this morning, though it was another hour before we got up.

After a leisurely Breakfast we strolled off to find the Musketry Mess. We had a little difficulty but managed it. We looked around the quarters then and soon chose a couple. As we are the first arrivals we had the pull on the rest.

The country up here is difficult to describe. It's sort of downland with plenty of undulation. A good deal of wood, mostly rather small. All around this part of India the hills seem to be of curious formation. Mostly rock and the majority of them pudding shaped. They look almost as if they had been dropped down at random. Here was are in a sort of plateau or tableland, though it is not flat but has it's own little hills 200 or 300 ft. high dropped about on it.

The climate here is not nearly so cold as we expected through I was quite glad to have my heavy Mufti coat in the Co. last night. It is most like an English September. The place itself reminds me more of Richmond Park than anything else or rather the view from the Club as I sit on the verandah writing this.

12.30. Still waiting for Namarha??? to arrive with the Baggage. I don't eny him his 32 mule jaunt.
