258 Max 91 Min 79 Rain tue june 15 Beach had gone ot Khafort? to play Tennis at 5.0 & was not with us as we marched on. The first question the C.O. asked was "where's Beach?" I said - "He's following on I think Sir!" Fortunately he turned up about 2 mins later.

When we had started digging, up came the CO "Beach, I've been looking for your rifles everywhere. Where are they?" Ye fat was in ye fire. The outcome was that when we got back to Mess at 8/45 we had a Lecture in the Ante Rooms on the Inseparability of Soldier and his Rifle -- even Trench digging. Wed June 16 Went up with the Trench Digging Party at 5.45 this morning to relieve Hickling.

Morning much as usual.

Had a very strenuous 3/4 hr in the Riding School. We had a fresh set of horses entirely & ones that hadn't been out to-day before so they had plenty of go in them. One had so m uch of it that he bucked when the Cpl cracked his whip & nearly dropped Lamont off.

After that we had the Rugger Ball out & played strenuously till dar! Then Mess. Thur June 17 Max 95 Min 81 Rain 1.05 A nasty sticky sweaty day. Wrote, wrote, wrote. Then at 6.30 had a kick about with the Rugger Pill till dark.

Iris the C.O.'s Silver Wedding Day to-day. So in Mess tonight we presented his wife with a Silver Bowl
