224 Mon May 31 97 degrees 84 degrees nil

Started the day well with a meeting in the mess to discuss the Spiritual & Moral Welfare of the Br. Troops in this Garrison. We had all the Padres the SMO & the C.O. We didn't talk for more than 1/2 hr. & I was left to write up the minutes.

de Visian turned up at Riding School tonight. Guest was taking it. He suggests that it will be best if he went in with the Bty. Recruits at 5.30 tomorrow. As it was his turn for Butt. offr. in the Range it was rather a brick so I offered to do it for him. The Adjt. unfortunately accepted the offer.

Dined out tonight at the Vicker's went on afterwards to a Bty. Sup. Sup. at which Higgins sang. It was quite good on the whole but I didn't get to bed till 11.45 -

- and was called at 4.30, which is a cheery beginning for a new month. It was quite like old times to be in the Butts again. All went smoothly & I was back at Brekker about 8.10.

Work at the S.S. office was rather interrupted to-day by a Stn. Board at 10.30 "to investigate the circumstances of the accident to the charger of Lt. col. J.L. Blumenfeld" that happened on Dec. 28/14. The finding eventually was that it was in the execution of duty & not through any neglect.

We tried vaulting at the walk & trot at the Riding School tonight. We (younger ones) have been doing it at the halt for some time now. Somerwell didn't get on very well with it.
