186 Fri Apr 9 face & the announcement that the advance party was leaving for Darjeeling tonight. The Orderly Room had a Telegram of about 32 sheets this morning with instructions and the result is that 10 men of "A" with Sgt Spall & L/Cpl Peck left by the 8.40 tonight. But that is anticipating a bit.
We had to push off to the Hospital at once where the Doctor (Howley) chose 20 men to go. 10 of these were to form the Advance Party. In all 154 men are going wiht 1Sgt lCpl & 1L/Cpl to each 44 men. Bamackpore??? are sending 38, Dum Dum??? 38 & we the rest. They have to be there on Thur. 15th & Beach is going as J.C. Detachment & 2 other officers go with him. They are to be Sharwood 7 little. As far as i can see unless they send more than 3 officers at a time I shall never get up there. However I may get ill yet!
Played Tennis in the afternoon with Lionel, Beach & Williamson. Had 3 very good sets. Churies?? afterwards. Sat Apr 10 Parade as usual. Went to the Gym in the eve. Mail came in during Mess tonight, so we didn't waste time over the coffee. I had quite a big haul. Letters from Mater, Pater, Grandpater, "Eve???", & the MT Committee??, 2 Observers, 1 Punch & 1 Church Times. Sun Apr 11 Ch. Parade as usual at 6.45. Wrote home all the morning. Slept in after Church in evening. Pennkals??? going these for the first time tonight.
