42. Sat Aug 15 The Fantasia finished with Rule Britannia which was singing with gusto & encored. Hefner got the audience to sing the chorus of Heart of Oak & had to sing the last verse again. Carrie Teble? was not let off until she had given two encores though I don't know what they were. They were both patriotic & both v.g. Then Land of Hope & Glory with full chorus & didn't it go. Again the orchestra & organ did their best, but they couldn't do more than keep their end up. Then to finish "God Save the King" again. So ended a memorable concert. We walked to Baker St & just caught the 11.18 home. Sun. Aug 16 Hill at 11.0. Mr. Rowlands (of Prime?) took the service & preached. The sermon would have been very good if it had been half as long. He brought in much that was quite unnecessary to his argument. ??On our was done?? Mrs. Pullman introduced herself. I don't care tuppence for Mrs. Pullman -- altho' she lives nearly opposite us -- but she hath a daughter! - Enough said.
