36 Tue Aug 11 War news scarce to-day. I am afraid it is the calm before the storm! Went over to Wellesden in a.m. to fix up an appointment with Stanley Stevens re teeth. Have about 4 to come out! ?? come tomorrow at 11.0 walk in eve. Wed Aug 12. Went over to Wellesden in a.m. as appointed. Had 2 1/2 teeth out. Gas. Don't like it - (the gas). He is to finish the job on Friday. Had recovered more or less by 4.0 so had tea 7 went over to Richmond to fetch Mater who went to see A. Alice this morning. We left her there about 7.30 & got home about 9.0. Pater met us at S.Harrow? Station. Thur Aug 13 Little war news. There is a battle line forming about 180 miles long & at present there is no more than affairs of outposts & advanced guards though I must say even in these Germany seemed to be getting the worst of it. Lazed in a.m. Went in to Padd in aft with the Mater to send a parcel to U. George then on to Selfridges. Phoned to Pater to meet us there. Had tea & came home together by bys via Kilburn & Stanmore (Services 16, 142, 173) Had a ??? from the O.V.O.T.C. this a.m. to know whether I am willing to take a commission in the new army of 100,000 that Kitchener is raising instead of in the Terrors? Replied "yes" - for war
