28. Diary of the Crisis. 6/8/14 see p 53 for continuation Thur. Aug 6 My own doings to-day were practically nil. The Germans have been repulsed at Liege with heavy losses estimated at 8,000. The ???? that was thought to have been an English one sunk by Germans turns out to be a German one sunk by us. Papers are absolutely mum about movements of our troops but from various sources we learn more or less officially (via Miss Ashby & Duke of Leeds) that the Gordon Highlanders & the Coldstreams are at Liege while another report says that 400,000 British troops are there. If this is so they must have gone before we declared war on Germany! They have built a platform in ?? Goods Yard out of sleepers appar. for detraining troops & their transport, guns, etc. There is one at N. Wembley as well. We hear they are coming @ "12 o'clock tomorrow".
