long and earnestly at buttons and bowl's?? I discovered that a hot-water wash was obtainable at the pub next door. Immediate dive for the said pub. Oh the joy of a real wash! The joy of getting clean again! At 6:30 the waggonettes arrived. Never in the history of the ASSO has there been such a display of really clean buttons as there was at this parade! At 7.0 we arrived at the pav. at Ascott. As a house party was in progress we had to be entertained at a pav. Leopold R. was unable to be present as he was ill. His son was there however and acted as MC.

The dinner was great. Champagne galore -- too much in fact for two people. I fancy I got outside 3 glasses! --to say nothing of the port afterwards. Both were jolly good stuff.

After dinner there was an entertainment. One man with an excellent voice who sang The Floral Dance among other things. A humorist who was good, very good and clean and a costume man who did two things which were needlessly racy. An excellent dinner followed by an excellent entertainment on the whole.

At 9.45 Stratton the CUOTC officers rose to express the thanks
