Did a couple of minutes rowing to-day and had two outings instead of our usual one in the four.

Mission again in eve. He was extraordinarily interesting again. Subject The Last Issues, Heaven and Hell. I can't say that I quite agreed with him. In fact, Wright, Dixon and I were arguing about it up to one to-morrow morn! Or rather after starting on the subject of which was the higher art, Music or Poetry? worked round to the Bishop and thence ensued a long theological discussion concerning Heaven and Hell and getting more or less off the point after that.

I find that Dickie is more or less a Rationalist. He wants everything proved by Reason. He will have an extraordinary job to get it. Faith he does not seem to recognize hardly at all. I hope that will come in time.

The Bish tonight again dealt with the disappointment some people seem to have felt that he has not gone in for Apologetics more. He replies that it is necessary first to get hold of the fundamental ideas before starting on doubts.
