Reid came in during lunch today and asked me to row. They have persuaded Giles to pull on bow side so there is now a four again. Leach is stroke Johnstone 3.
I rowed accordingly in aft. I found myself in much better training than I had anticipated, though we did nothing more strenuous than a paddle to Iffley and back.
Reid has never had to stand in a four & coach before. Consequently we succeeded in sitting him down in the stern. Unfortunately he did not go over the rudder!
Did some more photography in instead of going to mission?
Thur. Feb. 5
River again in aft. Went to the mission in the eve and am sorry that I missed him yesterday and the day before. He seems to have improved considerably since Monday. His subject was service. Though nothing new, he was very good.
Fri. Feb. 6
River aft. Giles could not turn up so persuaded Wright to come. We have done no serious rowing so far.
Mission again in eve. There seems to be a sort of crescendo, each night getting better, since Monday. His subject tonight was the Sacraments esp. H.C. He was a little deep but quite excellent though it does not seem to me that he
