1913

Sat Nov 22

Great excitement in the corr this morning. By lashing three ladders together ("a long 'un and two little 'uns") they have managed to reach the Jerry on the munugger There was a great cheer as the man took it off. When he got it down there was a rush for it but two policemen triumphantly bore it off in a sack. I hear that the fellow who did it is to be sent down. Rough luck if he is.

Went out for a ride in the afternoon with Herbert. It was fantastically cold. We did about 20 miles via Banbury Rd, Somerton, Kidlington + Rds 500yds S. of N in Sturdy Inn, thence E to Bletchingdon and Weston on the Green, whence S to Banbury Rd and Oxford again.

Munugger is probably the Martyrs Memorial
