2nd (Rawalpindi) Divisional Exercise.
GENERAL IDEA
The INDUS is the boundary between two States. KHAKILAND to East and WHITELAND to the west of the river. The armed forces of both states are organized as are those of the Indian Army. Neither state has any air service.
WHITELAND has for some time been bent on war and has made all preparations to carry out an aggressive campaign.
Owing to the strained relations that have latterly been existing between the two states KHAKILAND has assembled a force consisting of the 1st Division and 1st Cavalry Brigade at ATTOCK to guard that place 2nd to watch the river line to the North. Other troops are at KHUSHALGARH and guarding the crossing of the INDUS to the south of that place.
The 2nd and 3rd KHAKI divisions are located in the RAWALPINDI and LAHORE Divisional Areas respectively. The bridges and other important railway works on the RAWALPINDI-ATTOCK line are protected by infantry guards.
WHITELAND has assembled four divisions and a cavalry brigade in the PESHAWAR and KOHAT Valleys.
On the 11th December without any declaration of war WHITELAND made a determined attempt lasting 2 days to force the passage of the INDUS at ATTOCK, which failed.
WHITELAND had been observed making preparations to cross the INDUS at the ferry 6 miles north of HAZRO, but on the night 12-13th he threw a bridge across the river at TARBELA (13 miles N.W. of Haripur) whence a force of all arms moved on HARIPUR.
NOTE.- The railway line from Serai Kala to Havelian is to be considered non-existent for the purposes of this exercise.
