any of the "Badmashes" that are said to be about.

They closed the Pipe lines at night a few nights ago and the sentries have orders to fire at anyone who comes along! One or two other little things have happened up here lately which may or may not mean anything, but which may mean trouble somewhere.

Jack Hewlett went for a walk round Khanspur the other night, as a matter of fact he called in for me to go with him but as I has promised to play Footer for the section I went with him as far as the Footer Ground and no further. Well to continue, when he was down in that village with a gun and the gun went off!

They also say apparently quite truly that one of the Durham men who was over here for the Boxing got stabbed last Monday noght. It cut his coat but no more fortunately and of course the assailant made off.

Another D.L.I. man over at Topa got badly cut about a few nights ago over there. He was left for dead but recovered.

Life will almost be worth living up here if this sort of thing goes on, but I rather hope that it means sufficient trouble somewhere to cause a "Show".

8.30 p.m.

My bearer who has been over to Nuttia Gali see a friend brings back the news that Miss LLoyd has been bund ???. From him and from Potts, who had been up to Ghora Dhaka I have got I think the while story.

Apparently Miss Lloyd went out for a walk and tried to find a short cut over Mockspuri that Sherwood had told her of, from the Dunga Gali to Nuttia. She missed her way and although she offered a Khud wallah as much as 15 rupees to show her the way home, he only ran away from her. Consequently she spent the while night wandering about the Khud and eventually got about 800 feet down to a spot where she could neither go forward or back. y chance in the afternoon two Native Infantry officers were going along Mockapuri and saw her waving her skirt. This she was rescued. They apparently went back to Dunga for help and Slack went out with among other things, a bottle of Claret, which he says she drank without stopping.

I am very glad she was found as every one was begining to get rather anxious about her.

Tuesday Sept 26th.

Nothing more exciting than killing a snake to-day. The beast was just outside my tent. I was coming back from Tiffin and Fox was with me, when I suddenly spotted the thing and hurled a large stone, the only thing at hand, at it. For the next half minute both Fox and myself were busy hurling the biggest stones we could pick up at it, until finally one I got in fairly on his back broke it and settled the gentleman.

Talking it over in Mess to-night we decided that as it was a Greeny Brown thin thing with a thin head, and about two feet long it was a Krite!
