It is rather sickening to read that sort of thing because we have got nothing like the number of Machine Guns out here that we could do with. Our own regiment is an example, and the same thing happens in most of the B.I. regiments out here. We have two machine gun sections, in accordance with Army Orders, but we have only the guns and equipment for one. I hope that if these Vickers guns materialise we may possibly get 4 of them.

We finished the inspection about 12.30 and came up to the Mess at Ghora Dhaka for Tiffin.

The afternoon was of course spent in doing the work in the Orderly room that we should have but were not able to do in the morning.

Friday Sept. 8th 1916.

Went over to Changla Gali with Noad this morning to have a look at the Lewis Gun. They have just got them out here after they have been going at the front for nearly two years! Larner and Pull both came over as well. We had a Sergt. instructor to show us the thing arranged by Engledow. We were on it from 10 to 1. It is a very ingenious weapon but I think too flimsily built to stand up to real work. Its mechanism is not difficult to pick up. I also have very grave doubts as to how many rounds they will be able to fire from it on the plains or on the Frontier before it will over-heat and seize up.

Got back about 1.30 and after Tiffin had to go down to the Orderly room to do the day's work. Fortunately the Brigade Major was over at Kalabagh with General. Isacke and consequently there was nothing of ant importance in from the Brigade.

Saturday Sept. 9th 1916.

O/R in the morning. Colonel's inspestion at 10.0 - the usual boring chase round barracks looking for flies!

At 11.30 we went on down to Khanspur for a lecture on "Field Medical Organisation." The best part of it was that it did not last more than half an hour.

About an hours work in the Orderly room in the afternoon.

Went up to the Major's about 6.0 to say Good Bye to Mrs. Major, but found they were out. I had just got back to the Bungalow when in walked the Major, so I wandered up the hill to their Bungalow again and bade my farewells. I am awfully sorry that Mrs Major is going home again. She is "One of the best"
