Wedn'day. Sept. 6th.

Owing to this old General coming on Thursday we had our holiday to-day instead.

All the same I had to go down to the Orderly Room and did not finish there till 12.0.

Had a sleep. in the afternoon. That is the first time I have had an afternoon sleep since I came back from Cashmere I think.

Noad Slack and Myself went up for Tennid about 4.30. Played singles in turns. Had some very good games, though they are both, Noad especially, considerably better at the game than I am.

Munshi asusual at 7.0.

Thursday Sept. 7th.

As there did not seem much prospect of getting any other time to myself before post time I got up at 6.0. thish morning and wrote my home mail. Strafe these generals!

Adjourned to Breakfast at 8.0.

Got to the Orderly room about 9.0. Finished everything I could do by 10.0 when very fortunately the Post came in and I was able to look through it and scribble down what answers etc., I wanted sent, before t the General. turned up.

Punctually at 10.30 he arrived and with him General Luard and the Brigade Major. I joined on to the procession and we commenced our tour round the companies. The old chap had hardly been in the place 10 minutes before the C.O. had worked off his two pet gtouses on him, one, the Command pay of Captains and the other the way they are taking away all our officers piecemeal. He made notes of the various things but whether he will succeed in doing anythine I dont know.

We started at Ghora Dhaka, saw the Signallers & "A" Company and then walked down to the bottom of the hill where we collected our Ghoras and rode on to the Football field and saw the draft.

After that "C" Company and The M.G. Course.

One rather interesting thing the old fellow told us was that someone at Simla spotted the statement made in the house of Commons by Lloyd Goerge or someone that we now had all the machine guns we wanted for ourselves and could now commence to supply our allies. So Simla promptly cabled home "Reference Mr. So and So's statement in the House of Commons - when may we expect 500 Vickers guns?"
