Thursday August 24th cont)

We played a return match against the sergeants this afternoon. It was a good match. Our team was not our best. We were one down in the first half (2-1) but in the second we equalised, then they scored again, and we equalised again. So the final result was a draw 3-3. The first goal they got was through Stratton handling the ball in the Penalty area. They might not have scored even then had not Slack touched the ball as it went through the goal. The next goal I might possibly have saved if I had run out earlier. The last goal I let/ through through running out. So what is a poor goalie to do?

Friday August 25th 1916.

Nothing very exciting to-day. The C.O. went into Murree yesterday for a patent injection which he hopes will stop his excema that recurrs periodically, so the Major is in command for a few days.

Had a wire from O.C. Rawal Pindi this morning to say that the draft will arrive Sunnybank at 8.30 to-morrow. So had to wire for transport for them from S/B.

Saturday August 26th 1916.

Two years ago to-day that I got my commission. It certainly doesn't seem as long, in some ways, yet in others it seems an age. The chief difference the two years will make to me, in fact the only difference as far as I can see is that I am now eligible to sit on District Courts Martial!

We had our weekly trot round Ghora Dhaka this morning. I shall apply for a County Council Inspector's job when I get home, these weekly trots may come in usefull then.

Had a re-assambled Board on the Equipment of the first Draft at 12.0. Tiffin at 12.30 and at 12.30 I set out on a Pony with Scott and Slack, (I don't mean that we were all on one pony) to go to Khyra Gali to meet the new draft.

We xx got to Khyra about 2.30 tp find that they had just arrived. They had their "Shaboodeen Half way mealand started off again. When they gotto Kuja Gali I rode on as I wanted to get some tea before going down to Khanspur with them. (As Adjutant I have to look after them)

They eventually got settled about 6.30. Once we got them to Khanspur we did not take long getting them settled in.

They are a much better lot than the last draft. 26 of the. have been to Gallipoli and about 4 are wearing the little gold stripe (wounded). Only about 4 will be Wash-outs I think. About a dozen were in the first ninth with us at Sittingbourne.
