My dear Mother & Father
As I have two mails to answer I think I had better get a move on! One was waiting for us when we got back (yours of May 30) & one arrived yesterday (yours of June 8). Thank you both very much for them and also for your good wishes for our trip to Kashmir. They are none the less welcome because they arrive, as you expected they would, just as we return. You will see we had a very good time but we had both come to the conclusion that a month at a stretch is a bit of a waste. It is difficult to say whether it is better to come back glad to get into harness again or sorry that the holiday was not longer.
No Mother Cashmir is not far from ??? only 30 miles, but that is only the start of it & the capital which is the place to get to is 16 miles in! Fancy the only method of getting from London to Exeter being 4 days in a single pony trap. 2 days in a Post ??? and one day on a mule. It would seem strange wouldn't it?
