one could hardly call it displeasure, but he has noted that this Battn. has only two officers who are Qualified Machine Gunner instructors. Consequently he has intimated that at the earliest opportunity two officers will be sent on a course from this battalion. Consequently in the meantime he directs that they shall be given preliminary instruction under the Regiment at M.G.O. So I've got more work to do and "overtime" at that!

Edsell came to Tea in the eve. We talked ofmany things but practically of nothing.

Monday Feb. 28.

Field Firing today at Bokra. As several of the companies had very few men available they came over to watch us and of course things went wrong. The chief difficulty was that one cart took out both our targets and "D" Companys. This cart was to have started at 8.0. Our Targets were ready at 7.45. "D" produced theirs at 8.30. Consequently it didn't start till 8.45. So the result was that I hadn't got time to get all the targets up, ranges taken and so as I had meant to do, before the section (and the battn) arrived. So things dragged rather. I only managed to do Ranging and Indirect Fire both ways. Then to make things worse, we were to have had Dinner out there and
