(imaginary) in the Serving??? Line with orders to kick them out, keeping the 6 E. Surreys & the Yorks (also imaginary) in Reserve. So we moved off. The C.O. would have killed off all his Senior officers by the recaenaissince??? he made, because we should all have been seen & picked off (I'm not a "Senior Officer" but the M.G.O. is always there on these occasions).

When the attack got moving, I with my two guns were on a ridge just by the village with 'D'Coy on my right giving covering fire. We actually did fire over our Troops with Ball Ammunition. The CO was very nervy and I got a message "to be very careful, and not to take the same risks as I would in action, but to cease fire directly there was any possiblity of danger", which of course we did with a very plentiful margin of safety.

Then the ridge was taken & we had to get forward & push in to another position. I had just got my guns going in the new position when the "Stand Fast" blew.

The General was not so complimentary to the C.O. as Maury??? was last year, but he seemed very bucked with the march & the ply??? social condition of the men at the end of it. Likewise he remarked on the cheerfulness & the dash they put into the attack.

At Lunch Williamson was stalking about our Overheat File??? & said that the bold??? Denning??? -one
