when the brakes grind and out??? you have to get to see the men don't get out or do anything silly. This wasn't so bad by day but it was rather boring having to get up at every stop by night. They put two people on Orderly Dog??? on the Train. Fisher??? was on with me & being senior??? took the best part of the night (10 - 6) leaving me 6 - 2.

Sunday. Jan. 23.

A day as much unlike Sunday as any day could well be. We stopped at Amballa??? at 9.30??? and as it was nominally a 2 1/2 hr stop we set to work at once to get the mules & horses out for the hour. As the train was late we did not get the full 2 1/2 hours & had to box them pretty rapidly. Now that the men have done it once before they are not so frightened of them and know how to do it. The remilt??? is greater speed. I got a very hurried Breakfast. Frankan??? has been a brick and given me quite a lot of help with the mules on this journey, which has been invaluable.

The country we are going through is still substantially the same as Behas???. The villages are rather different and seem more substantial but there are the same long long stretches of absolutely flat country mostly cultivated but with here and there a desert patch.

We stopped at Fullender??? from 4.30 - 6.15
