86 Sat. Jan. 30
Range 8.30 - 10.30. Marking. The L.H. finished firing about 7.0 & then I went up & fired through a few people who had odd practices to finish.
We had finished altogether at 2.40.
had a go at the results in the eve. I think they will work out at about90 average.
Beach was in bed with a touch of fever to-day so I was O.C. "A" Co.
When I went through the Bcks at 11.30 seeing that things were straight for the C.O.'s Inspection at 12.15 I found Davis with his magazine and bolt under the Ring instead of in his box & Chadbum with a Bayonet ditto. So after consultation with Beach I held an orderly room in the aft and fave Davis 3 days C.B & Chadbum 3 extra drills. I was not a bit sorry for Davis as he is rather a rotter - in fact I am very sorry we did not send him back to the Reserve from Sittingbourne. Chadbum is a decent fellow who I was a bit sorry for. However if men will do silly things!
Prowse told me n the aft that the C.O was quite lucked??? with the kids and could not find any faults. (of course I was on the way to the Range & Hickling was there already at 12.15)
Spent the evening entertaining Beach and his visitors. Cotton, Hewlett (Jack) and the C.O came in.
