Wrote home after lunch, at 3.0 we had an equipment inspection to see how much of their own kits men had rescued, The returns had to go in to the Orderly Room so I did not worry about them. Went into Gib. again in the aft with Hickling. Did some more shopping and also posted the home letter. Got back about 5.15 & hammered the Piano until 6.15 when I changed into Blue.

7 of us went up to dine with the 8th viz. the C.O. Doovey. Monty Beech Frankan Hickling & myself. Hewlett was to have come but his cabin was so badly upset by the men working at the steering gear that he couldn't find anything in the gear runs thick through his cabin somehow.

We reached the 8th offrs mess after much climbing and many enquiries. The place is very nicely situated some way up the rock & overlooks the Bay. At dinner I sat next to an Oxford man called Leeson. He comes from New Coll. of corse we talked much Oxford "shop" & I thought of last NN.5??? & wondered what was happening there now. The dinner was quite a nice affair - plenty of champagne followed by Port. The usual toast of the King - a little more talk and then we adjourned to the Conte??? Room where the fun began. At first it was only reg. dancing: then some bright spirit suggested Rugby - so we had a Rugger match with a newspaper as the pill. In almost the first serum???
