move. We had a very pleasant journey to Newcastle. We stopped at Grantham & York, where we put on an NER engine (4-4-2) which took us along rather better than the G.N. I thought. We got to Newcastle about 3.25 & then the fun began. We wanted the Imperial Hotel. Pater had an idea that it was in the Scotswood Road. We got a Scotswood car and sailed along nicely for some time. Then as the neighborhood became more & more unpleasant we decided to go back - which we did by the next car at the Central Station we took a taxi which bore us off in exactly the opposite direction of Desmond where we found our Hotel (almost opposite Desmond Station.). We were given very cozy rooms - in the back of course, and so after installing

our bags we went out again in search of a cup of tea. We went by car to the Central Station again & found one there. At 4.40 we caught a train to Hebbum??? to see Mrs. Jimmie Hendry. We got there at 5.0 and soon found 16 John Street. Their eldest daughter opened the door. "Does Mrs. Hendry live here?" "Yes" "May we come in?" "Yes" So in we went into the best room. Then Aunt Maria appeared. She looked at Father for some time, then "It isn't Frank is it?" Then after a while "And who's this gentleman?" "That's Leon, my boy!" Fireworks. However we settled down after awhile and then Jimmie came in from work. "Two gentlemen to see you Jimmie!" This from Mrs. H. So in he walked & shook hands
