rot started with having to do Adjutant as I had frequently to go back in the afternoon which cuts into mone's leisure time. I almost think now that I shall apply for permission to withdraw from the examination as it will only be waste of time to go in for it.

There is another one next March. That will give me six months more to work for it. The General thinks we shall be out here another 3 years yet, so I shall be here in March alright.

Sunday Sept. 24th 1916.

Got landed with the Church parade this morning and as the Padre was up at Ghora Dhaka had to take the service myself. Fox read the lesson which helped. The service went quite well I think. I didn't pray for the Princess of Wales, or anything like that as poor old Gordon Lea Higgins did at Ghora Dhaka the other Sunday!

My real triumph was intoning the responses! Mail in to-day. Very late this week. Pottswent over to Nuttia Gali with Brooks - the Assistant Surgeon to-day. Over there they met an old friend of Brooks' who is apparently a sort of Secretary to Roos-Keppel .

Brooks asked him if he thought there was any possibility of "Trouble" The only only answers he could get were "I can't say", they pressed him but still they only got the same reply but eventually he added xxx " - but don't be surprised".

As it would have been easy enough for that chap to have given a negative answer and there would have been no point in his pretending that there was a possibility of trouble - however vague, if there was none, it looks rather as if we may with a little luck, find ourselves "on a show" It is just the critical time now of course.

Spent some time in the mule lines again this morning. I got Addis and Jackson of the Battery along to have a look at Grannie, Ginger and Jimmie Haines. They both agree that there ages are as I understand them from the Descriptive roll - 21, 19, and 19!

So I have written to Somervell to ask him to get the Brigade to cast them. Anent, (as the papers would say) the last paragraph of yesterday's entry a rather startling thing has happened. A certain Miss LLoyd, who is a nurse in the Pindi hospital was over at tea with henry Sherwood as far as I can make out.

at the Dunga hotel yesterday evening, Apparently she went out for a walk along the side of Mockspurl about 5 or 6 o/c last night after leaving Sunset, and has not been heard of since. Sunset was out with a search party all last night but they found nothing and this afternoon the remainder of the Battn. was out, with what result

I have not heard. I only hope that if anything has happened to her that she has gone over the Khud, rather than fallen into the hands of

It is much easier to read this time; therefore easier to type, but do you think 15 is fair.
