I dosed him after mess. I found that they syce, although he looks rather an idiot, had obviously seen a horse dosed before and so was able to ggive very useful help. Neither harris nor Fox werre any use at all!

Thursday Sept. 21st 1916.

The patient is "sitting up and taking nourishment" this morning, that is to say he has eaten his Breakfast and no longer wants to lie down, so I consider my first unaided case highly successful! He should be all right now!

Vesta writes to say that he has arrived at Karadni.?? In the mass of writing about the "show" on Wednesday last week I quite omitted to chronicle Vesta's departure for the Gulf. I said Good-bye to him as I snatched a few seconds to ride a couple of hundred yards along the road with him when I was in the thick of getting the column in order. I think he is rather sad at going, which I can quite understand. It must be very rotten going out without any other officer with you, without any of your own men. whom you know, and without knowing in the least what regiment you will get pushed to!

However he met three Surrey Officer on the train who were going there as well, so he was not long alone.

His chief anxiety at the time of writing seemed to be the state of the "Sea Outside" He isn't a good sailor.

Wrote mail in the morning and at last got most of the arrears of M.G. Correspondance etc., cleared up!
