Thursday August 31st cont)

Went down to tea at Khanspur with Vesta. Major and Mrs Kewett were there as well. After tea we walked to the end of the spur, and then to play football against No.12.

We just saw the tail end of the "Specialists" v "C" Company. The Specialists scored the only 2 goals of the match while we were watching. It was a sort of a Trial match for the "Green Howards" Inter Company Cup, which comes off at Gharial next week. To our great surprise they have allowed us to enter a "Specialists" team.

As some of No.12 has just been playing in the "C" company team our match was not quite as brisk as it might otherwise have been. I did not have a single shot during the whole of the match, though they certainly looked quite dangerous several times. We won finally by 2-0.

Friday September 1st 1916.

O/R in the morning. I brought up my dog from Khanspur with me this morning. The dog used to belong to a R.F.A. Officer called Spinks. He has been ordered on Field Service and left his dog with "Billy" Jackson. As Billy has already got a "Lady Dog" he was not overkeen on keeping a "Gentleman Dog" as well, so I jumped at the chance of taking it over. It is a curious animal, half Retriever with a bit of something else in him as well. He has too small a head for a "pucca" retriever but there is more of that in him than anything else. He is called "Nigger" and is an affectionate old thing.

He had to go down to the Orderly Room again after Tiffin, and did not finish until 4.0.

Saturday September 2nd. 1916.

O/R in the morning. A fair amount of work. We went round the Ghora Dhaka barracks about 10.15 on the C.O's usual weekly inspection.

Had to go back to the Orderly Room for about an hour in the afternoon.

Walked down to Khanspur and back after Tea by way of getting something to do.
