WednesdaynAugust 30th 1916.

O/R till 10.20 when I went down to Khanspur. I managed to dodge the C.O.'s inspection by arranging a Board on the Equipment of the Draft for 11.0. which of course is right in the middle of the C.O.'s inspection! The Board took us just over half an hour and then I went along to the Hospital for the monthly inspection. Potts was not in his most amiable of tempers but I soothed him down a bit. I was passed "Fit" again. I should be sick - in more senses than one - if I wasn't.

Back to the O/R again at 12.30 and again after Tiffin. It was nearly half past three when I finally left and went to the Bungalow to start writing mail.

Thursday August 31st 1916.

Had Dinner at the C.O.'s last night. I very much surprised Mrs C.O. by letting out my age. She said she thought I was about 27 or 28! It came up through our talking about the Bernays at Stanmore. The colonel used to live thre and so knew the father Bernays and a boy. This boy eventually, aftre a lot of calculation turned out to be the elder brother of the one I was at school with.

The G.O.C. turned up suddenly this morning. We knew from a telegram that he was coming over, but I xx didn't get the wire until I got to the Orderly Room this morning. He eventually arrived about 10:30 and stayed talking about various things til nearly 12.0. Consequently by the time we had finished xxxour work it was l o/c.

I was to have played "Footer" for the section's second at 2:30. against No. 10's first, but at about a quarter to two it started to rain very vigorously and "Footer" became out of the question. Our first played No. 10 the other day and licked them 5.0 so they said they would like to take on our second.

Wrote mail after Tiffin instead.

I am wondering if there will be any more Landslides with this rain. The last storm we had brought down half the hill side over on the Murree side. It can only have missed the Surrey's camp by about 5 miles. It would be rather awkward to wake up in the night to find oneself "Land-sliding"!
