would only affect about 12 captains in India, two of whom are in our regiment, so that the whole amount involved is about (sterling sign)??24 a month.

It seems as if the C?? of I is always out to save every halfpenny they can in the Army.

I had a letter from Paull?? to day. He says the new draft has arrived. It includes 3 officers and Duis??? has come back with it. They had a tragic mishap on the way up from Karach?? 3 men died & 17?? are in hospital. What happened I don't know. I should think that it is probable that the G. gl?? in its usual method of treating the British Irona???put them in 3rd class carriages with Jin??? info?? that crossing the Sued?? desert they for heat stroke.

We saw in the paper about a fortnight ago that on the arrival of a troop train, with territorials at a certain station of which I forget the name, they found several men ill and that 12?? deaths resulted & many admissins to hospital. We shall hear what actually happened when we get back to G.D. If it wasn't the mens own faults it is about the limit.
