THE following communigue reaches us form Simla:-- With reference to the cases of heatstroke which occurred among recently-arrived drafts of troops from England, travelling form Karachi to Northern India, full reports have not yet been received at Army headquarters, but it appears form the latest returns that there have been altogether 136 cases, of whom 15 have died. The train left Karachi with three medical officers in charge of the troops. Two second class carriages were fitted up as hospitals, and the train was provided with a coffee shop and a good supply of ice. The numbers to be accommodated in each carriage were specially reduced for this journey. Thirty two cases occurred before reaching Rohri. These were detrained at Rohri and removed to the Civil Hospital at Sukkur. Of these cases seven died in transit and five after admission into hospital. Sixty-seven fresh cases and three deaths occurred between Rohri and Lahore. The sick were all detrained at Lahore, where medical officers, nursing orderlies, ambulances, and dandies were in readiness. The sick, mostly mild cases were all taken at once to the station hospital and are all doing well. Between Lahore and Rawalpindi, 37 more cases occurred, and were taken to the station hospital at Rewalpindi. All are doing well.
