Irresistibly funny. Yet that was the method of our advance (Indian ???). As a matter of fact we hardly made any noise at all walking as we were wearing “chaples” over our boots.

We moved along for some distance with infinite caution. Moving slowly then stopping to listen on to examine trees likely to be truanted by Mr. Brian when suddenly two stones rattled down the Khud. That naturally held us up but nothing bigger than a wild cat hungered.

We moved on again and suddenly noticed that the bank was wet. Now water does not make a habit of lowing up hill so we gave it a little more examination & saw wet footmarks in the direction in which we were moving. We began to move a little more cautiously now, but nothing happened until after about ¼ km we found the marks where another bear had crossed the stream & gone along the bank. We went on about ½ km length when suddenly the Shikons stopped pointed & pushed our rifles into our hands. However they stopped us before we had time to shoot & we moved on (very cautiously) about
