Wednesday April 5th.

We paraded at 5.45 this morning to fight our way back to the plains again. half the Br. was advanced Guard to the Bde. The M.G. wroth.??? the other half were uroh??? the main body the rest of which was the West Kuts. The Surreys were Picqueting - the Queens were rear guard.

We arrived at 7.20 + jogged along up + down Khuds along the usual goat track affair that they are pleased to call a road, halting every few minutes for varying lengths of time. We kept up about one mile to mile and a half an hour I should say, though possibly nearer the mile than the mile and a half. About 4.0 we met a hill about 3448 high which had to be picqueetted + I got detailed to help them up. I did it with one gun in a chola??? hill???, though it was quite trirra??? enough for the unfortunate 1-2 who had to carry the gun up after we had dislodged the enemy we came ut??? of action and jogged along a bit more. About 1 1/2 miles on just as we got to the end of the hills a yell went up for the Surreys Machine Guns. But the Surrey MG did not happen to be there + their adjutant spotting us turned to the U C.O. + said "Middlesex are here so what about them?" so we did the work instead It consisted in getting on top of a young plateau and getting into action to help the uifamlry???, a big bound forrvend??? and we had to go forward about .5 oyds??? to a new position. For rheporr??? boundries
