Two of our companies + the Major were with the Adv. Gd. so Beach was O.C the rest. when we had got clear of the Srarting point we sumed??? to be "in the ear" so Beach set out back to the Bdz Major to know whether we were expected to keep trick??? with the transport + "Surreys in" rear. The reply was "Gon on until you catch up the Picquetting troops. There will be quick Pumgh???? halts from the front to enable the transport to catch up.
We moved steadily along with many halts at frequent intervals until (about 3 miles from the camp) about half way between Maharaj + Palszai we found the enemy had taken up a position in our left flank. The G.O.C. decided to actack at over??? round??? the right flank and we were sent to the left to cover them. We had just got nicely into position, when the enemy shifted at the sign of attack and disclosing his main strength to our original front. The Queens??? Srin??? Section were close to us + I think in the real thing, with 4 guns + C.S. we should have made him uncomfortable. As it was, we soon sumed??? to be getting left + decided to push in (in the absence of orders) and did so + came into action again against the same enemy in support of a company pushing up to destroy him. We then rejoined the Main Body and continued ins??? haltins??? and thirsty progress to camp. I don't know when I have ever before been so thirsty. I was such thirst that I couldn't swallow food. When we did get into camp - about 4.0 - I succeeded in getting a big "Kali Soda" which disappeared at one go. The men were less fortunate and it was some time before they manage to get drinks.
