Thursday March 30

Hamart as decided that it would be a good thing to get out for ourselves if only for a day, so we went to Peshawar today (at a cost of 2/8/- for Railway fares). We left by the 9.37 getting to Peshawar about 11.0.

Anweid there we chartered a Tonga & drove through the Bazaar. We found it quite interesting though nothing to have about as same people do. There is a big gateway in the bazaar from the top of which we get a very good view of the city. One can see at once from there. Why they do not worked to hold Peshawar in case of an attack from Afghanistan. It seems to be in a hollow square. In front is the Khyber or Khyber hills as the left the hills stretching to Kohar or down to orchestra thought the malakand. It would be an uncomfortable place.

After Tiffin at Draves Hotel we drove in a Tonga of the road which is the entrance to the KhyberPass. Except on Tuesdays and Fridays no one is allowed further than jamwood as the pass is not picketer. Consequently we could go no further. The Khyber or what we could – of it looked very like the rest of the N.W.F. scenery & except for its historical associations. I do not think it would be so very interesting. Some of the canavases which we passed as we drove out were quite interesting. They were of course moving up to jamwood to spend the night there to be ready to move up the pass
