Picqueting Troops 100 per mile
Main Guard Technical Troops etc
Mountain guns will usually be "well up"
Picquet's troops will know they will be on Picq therefore take extra ammunitions & food also pack a blanket or coat.
Best to have Picq Tr separate from A.G. Troops
Picq put out but O.C. Picquets ????. He wd be an expert if poss, & wd be with vanguard. The O.C. & the Troops providing the Picq wd. be his adjt. with them wd. march O.C. next Picq to go out as scouts.
Tendency of Picquet too many hills. One big hill will command several smaller ones. Strength of Picq 4-25 or more. Orders always for certain numbers of Rifles not one platoon etc. Large picquets are diff. to withdraw.
