Friday March 17
Marched out as a Battalion this morning and "rendezvous" ed as a Brigade. After a lecture to?? Cosby?? the Brigadier we moved off to allotted slices of hill & started on our first experiences of Mountain Warfare. All we did this morning was the method of occupying hills as a picquet, with a lot of going up & down hill simply, as the Brigadier put it, as Physical Exercise!- and pretty strenuous exercise too.
We had a lecture in the afternoon by Major Bunny??? He is doing Bde. Major to the Instructional Brigade. He is a Peshawar?? Bde man. I should say he is typical of our staff as it wasted ??at the beginning of the war.?? Quiet, with a thorough knowledge of his job, what he wants to do & why and all the details that have to be thought out. The Lecture was fully?? interesting.
Another fad?? dust storm tonight. Everything on my th?? is just about an inch thick in dust. It's the limit. I wish we could get some hard rain to settle it all.
Since writing the above remarks on dust there has been more. Anything more?? entirely objectionable I can't imagine. The whole of the inside of our tent was khaki coloroured in 10 seconds.
