trouble to open my letters to him. Well we are in the same position. I wish we had more of these sort of sermons. There is a very good article by Carey??? in the Church Times of Jan 7 under the title "The Standard??? of revolt." He objects to the dreary way in which Sunday after Sunday the clergy talk to men (he is thinking especially of Chaplain's work) about sin and the need of forgiveness and so on. He is of the opinion that it is no use when it comes to the work of winning souls - and I agree with him absolutely every time.
Monday Feb. 21.
Had the N.??? Staffords Range today. Did Practices 13 & 14. The men worked well. There was a big improvement even from the time when the 9.oc??? inspected us last week. The men are beginning to handle the guns more as if they knew all about them.
Tuesday Feb. 22.
More demonstrations in the Long Range??? today. Pull & I handled the guns. I did the boerhead???fine in the Level getting behind the Gun myself with friends at 600 & enemy at 800 I got 22 hits on the enemy set??? of 69 rounds & none on the friends which was the most important item. 22 hits is rather a large percentage.
