The G.O.C. duly arrived at 10.0 and inspected. He didn't worry much about the Companies - just walked about and then told them to shift - (it was cold standing) but he wanted to see the Guns. So we had to do a our for his edification and then come into action. We got this happily and then he asked. "What about your belts, are they new?"
"No absolutely sir? but fairly new."
"What do you do with a stiff one?"
"Use a belt plug sir"
"Have you got it here in your Spare Parts box?"
"No sir we have indented for it but haven't got them yet!
"There you are, what are you going to do in service if you get a stiff belt? Major Maxwell! Just tell the Arsenal to send along everything the Machine Guns want to complete."
After a little more conversation I called his attention to the rotten state of our Tripods.
"Major Maxwell! Tell the C.C.M> to come down and inspect these Guns and Tripods and report on deficiencies!"
