Monday Nov. 9th.

Parades as usual scale.

Jordan came up from 2-4 which filled up the time till Tea.

After Tea. Lamont Lisle and I climbed the low range at the back of the rifle range. We found at the top that there was a wide top and that the other side dropped pretty sheer to a gorge and rose again to the same heights as the hills we were standing on on the other side. We were nearly 4,000 ft above the world. There is no isolated peak just here but each little peak of this range is only about 30 yds as from its neighbor and doesn't vary more then a few feet in height from him. Going up was pretty easy. We wandered about on the top and came down a different way. In one place - just near the bottom - we had a pretty steep 20 ft and it was comic watching Lisle come down. He is a bit taller than I am and broad and he was horribly nervous. I must say when we go to the botom and saw what we had come down it looked much more terrible than it did when we were actually coming down. One can get plenty of foot hold as it is all solid rock here rough and volcanic looking.

After that exercise I settled down again to work and just finished in time for Mess.

Got a letter from the Mater today. The only English Mail letter in the Mess! Some people were rude enough to call it counting ones chickens before they were hatched to ask for letters to be addressed here. I call it forethright!
