Woken up by Nanna Khan at 4:45 and had to turn out immediately. Had a rapid shave, though a good one considering all things. The Gori??? turned up at 5.15 but it was 5.25 before we got off.

We arrived at the station about 5/50 & our baggage followed about five minutes afterwards. Fortunately the mail was late or we should have missed it. As it was we were sitting on the platform amid a sea of baggage when it came in. It was full but we got one Lower Berth. This one train a day system has it advantages because if one intends going more than 100 miles one never need look up trains. One knows that it is the 7.15 for Calcutta Side & the 5.57 for the Bombay Side & that if you try to be original & go by another train you will get there at exactly the same time or later!

We had – as usual – to change at Moghal Serai & had Breakfast there.

The Bombay mail was not so full & we got a compartment to ourselves all the way to Pipariya. The journey has lost all interest for us now & we slept rest??? of the way, waking up at 3.0 for tea and at 8.0 for Dinner. (We had no lunch). At 10/10 (p.m) we reached Pipariya to find that the moto??? did not go up till tomorrow morning. So as we did not feel inclined to sleep in the Waiting Room we hired a Special Car and went up in that, taking Hamnot's??? Bearer & some luggage with us leaving Nanna Khan to
