Mon. Jul 26

inspection, as it is only plaster.

The ??? has a large quadrangle with a marble reservoir of water in the centre. There are innumerable candlesticks both inside & outside (on the monumengt). The architecture is poor.

Then we saw the Jama Masjid which is perhaps the most satisfactory piece of work we saw.

We then saw "Talukdas Trail" which is only interesting from there being inside portraits of most of the Kings of Oudh.

After Lunch we sallied forth again & I saw the Shah Najah. It is the tomb of a good gentleman with a long name & has the usual dome but is only interesting from its associates. In the mutiny it resisted all efforts to take it for some time. The walls are so thick that even the guns of the naval brigage -- though moved up close -- could make no impression. At last some of the 93rd managed to scramble up a broken wall at the back -- only to find the defenders flirted ??.

Next & last we went to Filkusha ???. It is now only mines. It ws the villa of S'aadat Ali Khan. It is in the middle of a very fine park. It was captured on 12 Nov 1857 by Campbell & on the ??? General Havelock died here.

We spent a half an hour then in the Chouk Bazar looking for Ras??? ???
