Wed July 14 Agra
Turned out at 6.0 & at 6.30 trundled down to see the Taj. It is one of the very few places I've seen that didn't disappoint me when one has heard them talked about a lot. It really is gorgeious. Describe it I can't.
It was mighty warm when we set out again at 9.0 after breakfast at 8.0. The rains haven't broken here yet & it is warm in consequence. However we decided to atack the Fort. Being in uniform we got in alright but after wandering about for about 1/4 hr decided that all the show?? places were locked. However we succeeded in collecting a guide and despite the fact that it was an unofficial time. After some argument we persuaded him to show us over.
Much of the work is very like the Taj & was built at the same time. Again description is difficult.
we got back to the Hotel again about 10/30 & slacked, wrote & read until tea time.
Just after tea we set out for the station calling at a photographers on the way.
Left Agra (Containment) Station in a through coach to Delva dun at a5.57. We had dinner on the train.
