202 Fri. Apr. 30. Quite a busy morning. Started off by gong to see Petley? Found him at the Punjabi Mess. This was abouat 6.45. Then we went along to the S.S. Office & I formally took over. I got breakfast after that at 9.30. Then up to the Company. Signed various things and paid the company (this last in underf 1/4 hr), next I rushed off to the club for a lecture by Mackenzie on "Sanitation." Actually he talked about "Causes of Disease" and gave us a very interesting lecture.
After a drink I went to see Toovey??? & left him at lunch time. Now I have settled again after a restless morning.
Played tennis in aft. Singles with Willie. Ch???i??s in eve. Sat. May 1. S.S. Office 7.0. Got back to breakfast at 8.15. Then Company. C.O.'s inspection at 9.0. Major hewett. Nevertheless no grouses. Wondrous to relate. Mail at 9.30 tonight.
Had my first Riding Lesson tonight. Lamont?? & I put in to team some time ago. Now Cotton has joined us & pushed things. The result is that the Battery Rough Riding Corporal is running an officers class 5 nights a week.
We were showed how to put on a saddle and the various parts of things. Then we got on -- in the pucca style. Then we walked round & did a few turns & things. My horse always wants to Right Wheel instead of Right Turn. I was quite sorry when 6.20 came & it was time to stop. Sun. May 2. Parade 6.45 o 7. o/c. h.c. 7.45. C.E.M.S. Corporate. About 20 members there. Not at all bad. Went to tea with the Padre tonight.
