120 Sun Feb. 21. Parade Service as usual at 11.0 Beach was on Parade from Battn Parade Ground to the Church but no more

Played a vigorous set or two with Hickling in the aft which was quite good practice for both of us. Played Badminton for a bit before Mess. Monday Feb 22. Beach on Parade again today thank Heaven. We were down ofthe programme to-day to attack a wood so we indicated on the Qr. Mr. "Please supply:- 1 wood." But he couldn't so we dug trenches instead. There are on the bank of the Son?? It is supposed that we are advancing from Baiki?? to Munier?? & that for some reason we hold a position here. "A" Corp gets the Right Flank & has to guard against being flanked via the River bed so we have built the Trenches so as to include about a mile of River. They are quite hot. Just below the crest of the bank, built in this sort of shape. ?????SKETCH???? In the afternoon we finished them off, so our total time was only just about 3 1/2 hrs. Nay sae doosty??

Mail in to-day. One letter from holme, one from Squire, who says there are about 800 men only "up" & Oxford is deadly dull, no games, no Eights week, no boat race & I suppose no "Toppers". One also from Rowden who says the 7th & 8th are officially ordered to Gib!
