We found the rain descending in a very steady drizzle and had to do another of those quick dressing efforts, which have so far been rather characteristic of my travels in India.
I arrived to the ??? for a room last night. So drove straight there in a first class ??? which is practically a ??? while the bearer ??? in a box on wheels – which calls itself a 3rd class ??? - with the luggage.
I found quite a decent room ready for me – no 47. Here at my hotel which has any claim to respectability. Each bedroom had a separate bathroom. The bath – as at Dinapore – is a wash tub! Still it does.
I spent the morning messing around various shops. The 3 chief seem to be the Army & Navy. Have ??? Andersons & ??? Laidlaw. The interior arrangements are much like ??? at home. The shops are like all the rooms here lofty & have big windows though there are no shop windows quite like our own. The A&N is quite a son of its father!
About 3.30 after another raid on the shops I chartered a Taxi to take me to Woodburn Court. I had some difficulty in making the chap understand where I wanted. But he set off. He took me past some gardens of some sort to a gate of the ??? Outman Gate I think. Then I told him it was off lower Circular Road. “Ah - - !! -” much waving of arms etc. & off we went again & hit the spot this time. However it was a ??? rise so didn't mind the two ??? Mrs
