166 Mon. Dec. 14 the whole length of Victoria Barracks it means quite a long walk. When you've seen that you can back to your own breakfast to leave again at 8.40 to mount guard. That happens at the Orderly Room at 9.0. My guard was a bit late lining up, and when they did come they could not form fours! That was put right however and then I had to wait patiently for the old guard to return to be dismissed. By 9.25 that was over. I then set out on a tour of the Regimental Institutes starting with the Diary??? and Mineral Water Factory through the Canteens, Theatre and Supper Bar RC. Very conscientiously visited Arah as well and saw the Cookhouses and there as well as the Institutes. I got back to my bungalow about 10.30 and had a rest till 11.0

The Mail was in this morning, so I started writing my home letter at 11.15. I went round the cookhouses again to see that they were clean and that everything was ready for dinners. Back to the mens once more at 11.40 to leave it again at 12.30 to see Dinners in their cooked state.

At 2.0 there was rations and then I was free to sleep - which I did till time to change in Blue - 4.0 pm. I had tea in the Mess to-day by way of a change.

About 10.30 I went to visit the Guard as visiting Rounds. I took the Cpl. of the Guard with me when I went out to visit the sentry over the magazine. I found two there instead of one. The Cpl explained that the men are a bit jumpy about staying there alone so the relieved stops with the relieving sentry. Thus they do 4 on and 2 off instead of 2 on and 4 off.

I'm enjoying your ancestor's diary.
